What is normal after having mirena coil fitted?
I had the mirena coil fitted on wednesday 20th june under general anasthtic,,, on the day i had no pain at all but since i have been in pain at first it was bad but now it is a dull pain in the bottom of my stomach,,, for the first few days i had a very slight blood loss now i have devoloped a brown discharge does anyone know if this is normal,,,, if it is normal how long does it take to settle down n get back to normal i go on holiday in eight days n i need to kmow if i going to b alright for then,,,, many thanks to anyone who can help me x

It is normal to experience these symptoms - your body has had a foreign body inserted into is so is just working it out!. The brown discharge will be down to a little bleeding caused by the insertion. You should have been asked to return in a couple of weeks for a follow up check so the doc can see it is sitting well and you have no infection - any infection is likely to occur soon after insertion. If you have not been asked to return - just make an appointment with the practice nurse at your gp's for a routine check up. You need to give the coil a few months to settle in regarding your periods - some women will stop having periods all together.
