Is it possible to have PMDD with Mirena IUD? And can my hormone levels still flu!

Question:

Is it possible to have PMDD with Mirena IUD? And can my hormone levels still fluxuate throughout the month?

I had my (first) Mirena placed in January of this year, and since then I seem to be having progressively worse PMS symptoms. It's gotten to the point where it affects my life, so I would consider it PMDD. I've gained a bit of weight, I get terrible acne and hairs sprout on my chin, and my sensitivity level (emotionally) is through the roof. I get so weepy that the slightest thing can set me off. Logically I know it's not stuff worth crying over, by I just feel sooooo incredibly emotional about everything. And not just bad stuff, good stuff too - I get so happy that I cry too.

This seems to be happening for about 1 week per month, and although I don't have ANY period at all I'm convinced it's hormonal. It just *feels* like hormones, if that makes any sense.

Is it possible to have PMDD on Mirena? And can my hormone levels still fluxuate throughout the month even though I'm not having any bleeding at all?

Thanks in advance for any advice. Especially any docs or nurses out there.

Answers:

I would speak with the doctor about your symptoms, as with anything you try for birth control, it is possible it may not be right for you. You may need to take extra vitamins or hormones to help balance your system. No matter what you were doing or using before Mirena, your body has under gone changes and it needs to readjust or balance. I agree with you it probably is all hormonal, and anything is possible.
I track my PMS and period, try this website http://www.mymonthlycycles.com/... it is free and it helped me to realize how and when to expect my symptoms.
While most of my PMS problems went away after getting my Mirena, new things developed and my body has changed.
