I will be going to the gynocologist soon and it is my first time... I'm kind of nervous but is something I want to get in the habit of doing now that I am 18 and sexually active. By me being sexually active what can expect, and what can just expect from the whole experience period.

Smart girl. Be prepared to feel awkward. They will ask you to undress and give you one of those useless paper thingies that cover nothing. Then they will hopefully knock before they enter back into the room. The doctor will have a nurse present. If there is no nurse with him, get outta there! If the nurse is with him, then everything is legit. Usually the doctor will start with the breast exam. Once that's done he will go on to the internal exam. RELAX. If you are tense it will be more uncomfortable and will take longer. Doc will use some kind of lubricant to insert some type of instrument that makes it easier for him to do the exam(DISCOMFORT...NO PAIN). He will use an extra long Q-Tip to get a tissue sample from in there. Then he will use his hand to feel around for abnormalities. Then, not always, for extra fun you will get the rectal exam. Altogether, it should take between 7 and 10 minutes from the minute the doctor enters the room to saying good-bye, have a nice day. Good luck. Welcome to womanhood!
