The Pill, Period Pain, and Suggestions for Changing Pills...?!

Question:

The Pill, Period Pain, and Suggestions for Changing Pills...?

I am currently on Ortho Tri-Cylen Lo, and i just completed my first month of taking it (and i've never taken birth control pills before). I am happy with its contraceptive effect, but I am unsure about how it has affected my period. I used to have highly irregular periods (miss 3 months at a time, etc), and have randomly occurring very painful periods as well (major reason why I went on the pill in the first place). Ortho-lo has controlled the timing of my cycle well, but it still hurts pretty badly. Although the sharp shooting pains in my abdomen are gone, an annoying pulling/tight/fisting pain in my abdomen that lasted about 3 days occurred. Will this eventually stop? Should I look into going on a different pill? Any suggestions as to which brand...

Answers:

My period problems sound quite similar to yours. My doctor gave me Yasmin 28....but EACH person is different. I think my period was better immediately, but maybe it took a month or two. If this is your first time on the pill, your doctor should have set up a follow up for two or three months so he/she can discuss how it's going and take your blood pressure to be sure that there are no adverse affects. If your doctor didn't require the appt, and you take it for another month or two and still have problems, you should set up an appointment. Good luck.
