Why do vaginas develop and "oniony" smell.?
I have a best friend, she is seventeen and she and her hubby we talking and he said she smelled a little like onion. She of course freaked out and called me to ask why this happened. Before he said she smelled vaguely of shrimp but it eased into an onion smell for the past 4 months.

Any oniony, shrimpy, or fishy smell down there is ABNORMAL. This could be from a number of things.
1. Yeast Infection or some type of bacterial infection
2. STD
3. Body chemistry to latex - if they use condoms
4. Etc..
Your friend may only be 17, but if she's smelt this way for the past 4 mths only then it's safe to assume she didn't smell that way before. She needs to see an OB/primary care physician ASAP. That's the only way to know what the issue is. Good Luck!
