Cat, every young woman starts her period in a different way, so there is no exact right way. Often in the beginning you will have brown discharge (dried blood) and then 2 wks later will have a normal period. Or you may have several days of clearish-white discharge, brownish and then stop. After several months it should smooth out and you should start having a "normal" for you period by the time you get to 9-12 mo. It is all part of becoming a woman. If it does not smooth out by the time you have had your period for about a year, you will need to see an Ob-Gyn.
There is an excellent book that most Jr.High and High School library carry- it is called "Our Bodies, Ourselves." It is a very good book to see what to expect as you get older. I have counseled young women for years and often refer them to that book to learn more about their bodies. I have bought that book for several of my teenage grand daughters..It does a good job explaining each part of our lives as we start it.. It's an indication that your period is coming. The first time I had my period was just brown stuff too. It's coming soon. :) Best of luck.
