Menopause means when you have not had a period for 12 straight months. Average age for this is 51. But for several years before your period stops totally, you can expect irregular periods and strange (heavier or lighter) periods along with hormone fluctuations. Plus, if you get your tubes tied, you tend to go through menopause earlier than average. So at 49, to miss a period puts you right on schedule for premenopausal changes.
menopause can come earlier and a missed or late period is just one sign of it... just because you missed this period doesn't mean you will never get it again this can go one for a while before you finish menopause
not every woman is the same either you don't have to have all the symptoms to be going through menopause
There's no fixed age for reaching menopause. For some its 45, some its 50. Yes its menopause.
I started menopause around 45 and it didn't end until around 55, I was so thankful when it was over that I had not murdered anyone in that 10 years.
Since you're already drying out, hot flashes and night sweats are right around the corner. The best thing I did for hot flashes...my hairdresser shaved about 2 inches of hair off the back of my neck, it made a world of difference getting air there. You couldn't see it unless I wore a pony tail.
