Is it bad to not take your sugar pills when on the pill?!
Question: Is it bad to not take your sugar pills when on the pill!?
I am asking this question on behalf of my sister!.
She is on the pill called mercilin 28 which has 21 large pills(containing progestrone i think) and 7 small pills which are the sugar pills so she gets a bleed each month!. This bleed however is known as a "fake period"!. If she does not take her sugar pills and just skips them and continues to take her large pills again the next month, is this bad!?Will it affect her fertility!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's okay to skip the withdrawal bleed every so often, but if she wants to do it regularly, she should consult her doctor - she may be prescribed a lower dose pill to do it with!.
I've been skipping the withdrawal bleed for 3 months at a time with Norimin - with my doctor's approval!. It doesn't affect fertility at all as there is no medical reason to have the withdrawal bleed!.
The only reason the sugar pills cause a bleed each month is because they don't contain any hormones (they are just lactose)!. The drop in hormones triggers bleeding!. You could have a peppermint instead of the sugar pill, or a stick of celery, and you'd still bleed!. I just don't take anything for those seven days, they are just there to remind to to take a pill each day out of habit!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Technically, her pharmacy should not be allowed to dispense more than one month of pills per month, to protect this from happening!. If she is continually taking her birth control pills it likely will not affect her fertility, but it can cause other problems with her health!.
Unless she's spoken with a healthcare practitioner about constantly being on birth control pills and skipping her periods [which is actually prescribed for some diseases and disorders], that is one thing!. But if she's doing it herself -- not a good idea!.
IF thats not what you're asking though, she doesn't need to take the sugar pills!. They are just there to keep you in the habit of taking a pill everyday!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

As long as she remembers to take the active pills when it is time, she will be fine!.
She NEEDS to get doctor approval to skip the sugar pills entirely!. Even then she may still get some spotting/bleeding and she will definitely screw up her cycle by doing so!.
If she feels the need to try to skip her period she should get on Seasonale, Seasonique, or Lybrel instead of messing with other pill prescriptions!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Nope!. The inactive pills are just there to keep you on track in terms of taking your pills every day!. Taking them or not taking them has the same effect!. That's why they're called placebos!. They're just sugar!.
Edit: Oops, didn't read the question right!. If she is skipping the inactive pills all together, never taking a break from the active ones, that's not a good thing!. She should speak to her doctor before doing so!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
