Question: Bleeding Nipples & Breastfeeding!?
Here is a little of what is going on!. My son had thrush for about 2 weeks, so the both of us have been put on meds!. I was told to continue to breastfeed even though it hurt like hell sometimes to where i would be crying while he would eat!. My nipples became dried/cracked and would bleed!. The lactation consultant said that him drinking the blood is OK!.!.!.This to me does not seem right!. Now that the thrush is gone, I now got mastitis, so i have continued to breastfeed, and thank god the infection is just about gone!. Again, my one nipple now is healed and the other is still cracked/bleeding!. Again, i am told to continue to breastfeed on the infected side(bleeding nipple) which i have done!. Is there anything that anyone has used to clear a cracked nipple!? Also has anyone been told that it is OK for the baby to drink the blood!? To me this just does not seem safe at all, even though the lactation consultant says its ok!. AND NO THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE LATCH!.!.!.!. Thanks for your inputWww@Answer-Health@Com

There really is nothing wrong with him drinking a little blood!. Remember, he was in you for 9 months surrounded by the stuff!. The benefit he is getting from the milk is totally worth it!.
I am sorry you are going through this!. I did too, and it was not fun!. Lansinoh works wonders (it is a lanolin nipple cream)!. There are also gel discs you can put in your bra that help protect your nipple until it is healed!. You can keep them in the fridge for a bit of relief, too!. I highly recommend them!. You can usually find them at most stores!.

Lanolin might work!. No, I don't think that drinking blood is right!. You can google it or something, also ask your doctor WHY its okay to drink blood!.

Use lanolin!.!.!.Also this happened to me!.!.!.My daughter was drinking blood, and I just got to the point that I had to pump instead!.!.!.because it was hurting me WAY to much!! Trust me, I know how you feel!Www@Answer-Health@Com
