That seems way too long to be spotting, but I know this does happen occasionally!. If you've been taking your pill correctly and haven't missed any pills, your doctor may recommend a higher estrogen pill to help with the breakthrough bleeding!.
Alesse is a VERY low estrogen pill with only 20mcg of estrogen!.!.!. some women need more estrogen to prevent breakthrough bleeding!. I know when I started Yaz, another very low estrogen pill (20mcg), I spotted for 9 days but eventually my body got used to it and the spotting stopped!. I did talk to my doctor and she said my body was adjusting from a higher estrogen pill which I had previously been on - Ortho Tri Cyclen (35mcg estrogen) - to one of the lowest does pills available, which is why I spotted!. My doctor did tell me that if it continued for more than 2 weeks she'd recommend I switch to a pill with a higher estrogen level!. Luckily the spotting did stop for me!. However, since you spotted for 3 weeks (ugh, I can't imagine), you very likely will want to switch pills!.
Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yeah things are probably just a little jumbled right now!. You should give a pill 2-3 cycles to regulate, even when switching from pill to pill!. So since you went completely off, your body had nothing to regulate so now it has to get back on track again!. I wouldnt worry :o)Www@Answer-Health@Com
