Im scared I dont really know what this is?!

Question: I had an abnormal pap smear and then today I went back to get more test but now I have to wait two weeks for the results. The doctor said it was low count so I guess thats good and said they would just freeze it off. But I dont even know what it is could it be cancer or an std?

Sounds like you have one of the low-risk strains of HPV. (Low risk usually exhibit symptoms like warts; high risk have virtually no outward symptoms but those are the strains that lead to cervical cancer). The first thing you should do is take a deep breath. It's not as bad as it sounds. They are probably testing a sample of cells to make sure they aren't pre-cancerous. Also, if your doctor said they would freeze it off, he probably meant the warts or the abnormal cells. If you are young, the virus will most likely work its way out of your system (your body will fight it off). I was diagnosed with a high-risk strain and my body fought it off within 18months (you have to have 4 normal pap smears in 2 years to be considered HPV-negative).

When you talk to your boyfriend, definitely read up on HPV before you bring it up with him. Men are only carriers of HPV, they don't show any symptoms if they have it and there are currently no tests for men. Also, there is no way of telling who you got it from or when, just be happy that you found it now instead of having it get more serious. Good luck :)

It sounds like you have the Human Papilloma Virus. If it's low count and they can freeze it off, that's good. If you'd have waited, you might have eventually got cervical cancer.

Your doctor would have to tell you to be sure, but it is usually do to warts. (HPV)

Sounds like that pre cancer cell. It is not cancer but if left and not taken care of it could turn into cancer. So it is a good thing you found it. You should have ask your Dr. to explain more to you. That is why he or she is there to make sure you know what is going on with your health

It probably is HPV . So many people have it and just don't know it. I am one of those with it and if it weren't for having a pap smear I still would not know it was there. Don't panic. When you tell your boyfriend make sure you have read up on it first as to not scare him to death. Don't blame yourself either and assume you gave it to him!!! Chances are he may have given it to you and he just didn't have symptoms, but you have exhibited them so the blame game is not necessary here. Make sure you let him know that right up front. This could lay dormant in a person and being sick or having a low immune system can bring it out. No need to point fingers. Follow up with your doctor and if you continue to have sex pls use a condom, but I have to say even the use of a condom does not mean it will not be passed on. Any uncovered arae of skin on skin contact is a potential for spreading it. Good luck sweetie and everything will be fine.

HPV.
