It doesn't really hurt, but the IB Profin helps with the cramping after. It pinches inside a little while they are inserting it, but not much. It's over very quickly. I also have the copper one. The cramping is the worst part, and lasts for a few hours. I was able to go shopping after and just kept walking. Kept my mind off of it and helped with the pain. So do take the IB Profin. Good luck!

I have one and its not painful, the first few moments of having it inserted causes mild cramping. I took ibuprofen before hand to ease the cramping but after that I felt nothing, you don't even feel the IUD, its like nothing is there. I'm on my 5th year and have had no problems. I love it.

I just realized you are getting the copper, I'm not sure if its any different however I have the plastic, the 5 year one, not the 10 year. I would assume the same though and that is why the doctor suggested taking ibuprofen.

it can be crampy like feeling kinda like your going to start your monthly
you need it so you dont have the cranps
they go away tho

The speculum may make you sore or by accident pinch, and you will probably feel some sort of soreness afterwards from the stretching and such. It's not a horrible pain, but take some tylenol and you won't have to worry about it.

The side effects are horrible! My friend had that put in like in 2005 and she had stomach cramps and it took her 45 minutes to poop everyday after she had hers put in. I think that lasted a year.

Then my sister had an IUD put in like in 2006 and her's slipped out and that was a bloody mess.

Good luck though. Oh and my mom got pregnant with me when she was on an IUD. That was back in 1987.

you may need it after the gyno puts it in...it might not hurt putting it in but after it's in for like 2 hours you might have some cramping
