Birth control, periods, and an upcoming vacation...?!

Question: I have determined that the week of an upcoming vacation (in four weeks) is the week of my period.
This Sunday I should be starting a fresh pack of pills which would keep me on track for having my period the week of the 31st, my vacation.

Now I would rather not be on my period because it is a tropical vacation of sorts...beachware constantly and the hassel and such.

My friend suggests doubeling up on the last week. By that she means starting a fresh pack when I should just be taking the sugar pills. But I thought that maybe it would be better to just skip a week now, and instead of starting a fresh pack this Sunday (the 9th) wait until next Sunday (the 16th)

Which is better? Or neither? I really don't want to harm my body because of some vacation...but if its pretty safe I'm all for it.

Your friend is right...Just start a whole new pack..Don't take the last week of your pills...you know the fake pills in the last week. instead of taking them, just go ahead and start a new pack. you won't have a period..Trust me everything will be fine. I have done this several times before. And you don't have to worry about getting pregnate.

If you skip a week now, you will increase your chances of getting pregnate and your period will come on.

Just follow your friends advice and when you are on your sugar pill week, start a whole new pack. finish that entire pack to get back on schedule.

you can do as your friend suggested but that really does mess with your hormones. I know it is uncomfortable to go out in swimwear while on your period, but why screw with your body? once you get your hormones messed up it can take a while to get them back in controll

i did that one time when going to cedar point
my body still tried to start my period, so i just spotted a little bit, after that, my period was off for a while
i don't how healthy it is to do that, but i don't think i ever will again.
thats just the life of a girl

If you skip anything but the last week of pills you put yourself at risk for pregnancy. If i were you, as soon as i hit the last week on your current pack I would skip it and just start on the new pack. That way you won't have your period on your vaca or risk getting pregnant.

I often skip the last week ( when your supposed to bleed) to schedual around vacation or just because I don't want to have a period that month. Its safe to do that for up to three months in a row, but the more you skip the more tissue you expel during your period so risks vs benifits type thing. I also take BC for cysts not as a contraceptive so its really important for me not to just skip a week anywhere in the pack.

People have already said it, but just start a new pack! I'm actually doing it right now. I was supposed be on my period this week (my spring break! ugh!), but I just started a new pack before I got to the placebos.

There's nothing wrong with doing that. Skipping the last week of hormone pills, however, is NOT a good idea. You are more likely to become pregnant if you slip up during the FIRST and LAST week of your hormone pills in your pack. Remember that. But the "period" you have when you're on the pill is not actually a real period anyway. It's more like a reassurance to most women if they can see their body acting "normally". Do a bit of research and you will know what I mean. It's hard to explain!

You may spot a bit during the first couple days of starting a new pack if you've opted to skip your period. No worries. Your body is just a little confused! :)
