Question: To me, I thing it is one of the most horrible things in the world. Sometimes, they hold down the girl and perform the procedure, how barbaric! I know many girls die because of this. How can we put a stop to this? It seems so wrong to me.

I too find the practice insanely barbaric! I could not imagine having to live through such horrors!

well of course nobody is going to disagree with you. But it is mainly a cultural thing, thankfully I am not a part of. I do not know why this is allowed to happen but it should be stopped. I found this on the net and it makes my blood boil!

i completely agree. This inhumane act needs to come to an end!!! These girls live their whole lives with pain, because of one silly procedure. No person deserves to be treated this way. Against their will nonetheless.

Im sorry to say I dont think we really can. Each respective government has its own problems to deal with, and we cant be running around dealing with all these world issues, especially when its been done for over 500+ years.
Its sad to hear and see, but even if we do step in we will just ruin the natural order of things, no matter how bad it is.

While barbaric, it's also a tradition to some cultures. Where is the line drawn -- at what point is it okay for some cultures, even if frowned up by other?
Look at lip plates of the Surma, neck rings of Burma...why are these okay but female circumsicision not?
And while I am against it, why is it wrong for the girls but fine for boys? Yes it's religious, but to those cultures who practice female circumscision it is just as religious. Is this to state that because they are girls it is wrong? Why? Because they are weaker? They don't get a say either.
Don't get me wrong; I'm very much against it. However, I think that this is one tradition that will be hard to destroy.
If the female circumscision is done in a hospital or by a professional (illegal but performed), the clit is also numbed. There are areas of the world where male circumscision is NOT numbed.
I have studied this in my culture class and it is horrible! There are organizations that are trying to stop this mainly because (1) it is against the girls will in most cases and (2) they don't use any anesthetics. I know that it has been preformed within US borders under the protection of their nation's belief. Not too many people know about this insane act!
I also think male genital mutilation is terrable but nobody is kicking up a stink about that everyday practice.

This practice is totally barbaric and it is also illegal in the UK, the police and the social services will actively pursue and prosecute any and all people found practicing it .

OH MY GOD !!!!!!!! i just read it in wikipedia and i feel soo sorry, im a guy and i woud not want my penis to be cut off, i mean i had a circumcision when i was a baby, but thats only because it better for health and it looks good, lol. but for girls i feel soo sorry, and i wish i could do something, right now im soo sad, i hope God could help them. my pain is with u girls.
