Should I be worried about TSS?!

Question: Okay, so I know that Toxic Shock Syndrom results because you leave a tampon in too long and stuff.

But...how long is too long? I sleep in one...and sometimes they are in for up to 12 hours. I have been doing this for four years...and so far everythings okay?

What are the signs of TSS? Should I be wary of it?

You're ok to sleep in a tampon as long as you remove it right when you get up and put a new one in just before you go to bed. It really shouldn't be in longer than 8 hours, so you might want to get up during the night to change it. TSS is very rare, but does happen. It can be deadly if not treated right away, so you should be aware of the symptoms. It starts with sudden flu-like symptoms, a very high fever, and a bright red rash. My mom nearly died from TSS (related to a vaginal surgery she had, not tampons). Her symptoms started out with a very high fever and achy muscles. She then developed a red rash over her entire body. It required hospitialization and heavy doses of antibiotics to treat it. The reason she got so sick was because she ignored the early symptoms, and her body was already weak because of an autoimmune illness. If you ever notice the symptoms, get to the doctor right away. You can find a more comprehensive list of symptoms at : http://www.fda.gov/fdac/features/2000/20...
You should be fine as long as you're changing your tampon regularly and use the lowest absorbancy you can.

you would know if you got it due to fever chills and very grave health,,,its a blood infection that would put you to your death, or close to it and you shouldn't wear a tampon to bed and you should change one no more than 4 hours difference and depends on your flow level,,,

Yes, you probably shouldn't wear one for that long, and the signs are flu-like symptoms, vomiting, nausea, those sorts of things.

ur suppossed take it out every 8 hours! the information comes on a pamflet in the tampon box!

all i no is you get a high fever and you like PUKE!
