Answers: cotton balls

I think they used old rags and, if possible, they stayed home.

they used rags.. thus being on your rag,
and back in the day women did not go out during thier period

The same things animals do--nothing.

used a leaf

rags....

They just let it flow.

That is where the term, on the rag came from. That's what they used.

rags ahahhaha

rags like everyone else said and also theyy probably stayed home and did nothing.

they wore belt with pad

modest asian women still do

In ancient times they used everything from raw wool to strips of leather that held dried herbivore dung (Also used as baby wadding) shredded bark to cattail fluff... If it was absorbent and plentiful then it was used.

In the more civilized times... they wore bigass belts that held thick wads of cloth that, like diapers, were washed and reused.

It was like wearing a diaper... The belt went around your waist and between your legs like underwear but it wasn't designed by a woman so it wasn't conferrable...

You had to wear a VERY loose skirt or dress because of how thick this thing was... It could be seen from a mile away...

Modern Maxi Pads and Tampons are THE greatest invention to ever come from the hands of woman-kind.

There should be a shrine in every woman's home to the great inventers that freed us from the horrors of the past!

They used rags, and like the others said they probably disappeared for 3-5 days. It's hard to believe this is still going on in some countries, but it is. I heard there are some countries in Africa that allow young women to miss school while they're on their period... think about it.. 3-5 days... once a month... out of school... horrable! I can't imagine how far behind these girls are. As a matter of fact, I'm about to look up some orginizations where I can help those poor girls right now!

They used belts to hold rags in place. Most used rags, thats where the saying comes from "I'm on my rag". Seriously. lol
