I used Instead softcups for the first time last month and I LOVED them. (They are not female condoms by the way.) I should mention that my periods are usually fairly light and last about 5 days. The beautiful thing about softcups is that once you put them in, you can leave them in for up to 12 hours. While I have never found a tampon that didn't leak, softcups almost never let anything slip. Best of all, there was no string. I could use the bathroom and take a shower without worrying about the string getting wet.
Some things to keep in mind:
1. It's more difficult to put in a softcup than a tampon. While the position of a tampon doesn't really matter, the softcup must fit over the cervix, which involves reaching into your vagina and possibly repositioning things.
2. Some women can feel them, which can be unpleasant. Sometimes it took me a couple tries of putting it in until I couldn't feel it anymore. Other women are less lucky and always feel them.
3. Softcups rarely leak, but once they do, it's much worse than a pad leak or a tampon leak. Pads and tampons don't stop absorbing blood, or at least they keep most of it in place even if you're leaking. But if a softcup shifts (say, at night), then there's nothing to hold the blood anymore and it can get everywhere. I didn't have the courage to try them at night.
4. They're much messier to take out than a tampon.

Overall, I still recommend them. I would imagine that they get easier to handle with practice, and if you're nervous, you can put in a pad or a pantiliner while you try them out.
Tell your mom the truth about why you want to try them. There's no shame in wanting a more convenient period experience.

softcups are womans condoms

Just when your at the store. Be like. I need some stuff. be right back. Run and go grab a box. and be like, can I get this ? i think i'd like it better than tampons.
