What would a prolonged yeast infection do to you?!

Question: I honestly think that I have had a yeast infection for over two years, around when I started my period. But I thought it was normal for all ladies, so I never asked my mom about it. I'm constantly getting discharge and have to wear maxi pads that get completely wet (don't soak through to my underwear, though) and it smells rather foul.. embarassing, but yes. Though it isn't cottage-cheesy, but sometimes yellowish.

Anyway, my question is, does this have a lasting effect on my health? And yes, I'm going to a gynecologist soon.

This does not sound like a yeast infection. Yeast in fections are that they have a yeasty kind of smell. If you have a fishy or other such foul odor with the yellow discharge this could be a type of vaginitis or even P.I.D. Left untreated certain infections can make reproduction impossible. If you are afraid to talk to your mom go to planned parenthood or your county health dept. It is important not to self diagnose when you are not 100 percent sure what it is. Seek treatment. See a Physician!

i have heard that its possible for you to get some kinda sores if you dont take care of them right away

It's probably just cervical mucus. It should be clear to white but it often stains yellow, shouldn't be yellow coming out though, and a vagina is always going to smell like a vagina. There is a big difference between it's normal smell and infection though. If it was an infection, people wouldn't be able to ride in the same car with you without noticing it.

Any guy would be able to tell you, cervical mucus and the vagina's natural scent is a huge turn on for guys, if he runs for the hills though, you know it's an infection.

A prolonged yeast infection can lead to blockage in the Fallopian tubes and cause infertility. I don't quite remember what else happens but I know what a severe yeast infection can to that if left untreated.

It sounds like you might have something like bacterial vaginosis. There are other possibilities as well.
