Abortion of Ectopic Pregnancy?!

Question: I recently came upon a couple of questions in this community regarding the subject of abortion - a topic much bigger than I intend to discuss here! However, what I found surprising was the opinion, expressed by a couple of respondents, that abortion in the case of an ectopic pregnancy was still entirely unacceptable and should be illegal. By which I don't mean a catch-all 'It should never be allowed', but a specific answer about *ectopic* pregnancy.

So my question is this - without getting into the obviously very emotional subject as a whole: are there really members of the anti-abortion community who agree that there is NEVER a good reason for abortion - even in the case of ectopic pregnancy? If so, what would your argument be against it in this particular case?

Thanks for reading and responding reasonably, and I hope I don't offend anyone (from either side of the argument!) with my question.

I think that respondents in the past have no clue on what an ectopic pregnancy is. They just see the word abortion and think, OMG, NO...that is wrong! Pure ignorance I think.

An ectopic pregnancy is not a viable pregnancy. It cannot survive...EVER....it will cause more damage to the mother if not treated either by medication or by surgery. It is stuck somewhere other than in the uterus and it will not be able to make it to the uterus once it is embedded into another structure outside of it.

I would love to hear the arguments against abortion in this case.

EDIT...

That link is sure amazing. Thanks for the post.

I'm still with you though on ending due to ectopic.

An ectopic pregnancy is not a viable fetus - there is no way that this pregnancy will result in a baby, it will only result in killing the mother. So in cases of ectopic pregnancy, surgery to save the mom is the only way to go -

and I consider myself pro-life.

Shana B is right, if you dont abort neither mother nor baby will likely survive, so there should be no reason not to save the one life you can.

An ectopic pregnancy is never viable pregnancy to start with, and if not treated is generally fatal to the mother.

I wouldn't even consider this an abortion, since the pregnancy was never viable an not in the uterus.

As far as abortion, it is a choice that should remain for all women. If you are apposed to it don't have one.

An ectopic pregnancy is a doomed pregnancy. Even a Catholic hospital would remove an ectopic pregnancy, since the child cannot possibly be saved.

Abortions to save the life of the mother were legal in all states long before Roe v. Wade. I have never encountered anyone who thought it should be illegal to end an ectopic pregnancy. Perhaps those people are just invincibly ignorant on the subject.

I am against elective abortion, by the way.

I know one woman (maybe more who didn't tell me) who just about died from an ectopic pregnancy. I heard somewhere that it's one of the leading causes of death among young, healthy women.

The embryo dies if the mother dies.
The mother doesn't die if the embryo dies.
The embryo dying is a constant - the mother dying is a variable. I know how I'd solve this equation.

(Yes there are rare and bizarre exceptions to the rule, but I prefer not to reason about the world exclusively in terms of bizarre exceptions.)
