My pap was atypical should i worry?!
Question: i read so where that when you have an infection your pap can come up atypical but should i worry . i am 23 and my paps have always been fine. but last month i had spotting which i never have and i do get pains in my cervix. the nurse said that it could wait 3 weeks for the other test. what should i think

First off yes a pap can come back atypical if you have a bacterial infection or yeast infection....so take a deep breath and relax...also they can just be wrong too depends on who's reading it and if they were in a hurry to get home that day!! go back when they said they will do another pap can go from there.....I had dyplasia (pre cancerous) 25 yrs ago....and have been fine since treatment...just trust your dr.
You shouldn't start worrying yet. The Same thing happened to me about a year ago. All it was for me was a bacterial infection. I was given simple antibiotics and it was gone in a week. Just keep your self hygienic and what for the other test. You should be fine.
There are many reasons for a pap to come back abnormal. Yes, a simple infection can be one cause. However, there should be other signs with infection: an odor, pain or burning and/or discharge. These symptoms are not always present with an infection, but usually there is something else beside just pain and spotting.
