Question: My 12 year old just got her period, she started crying when she got it beacuse she didnt want to go to school with it, she has a volleyball game tomorrow and dosent want to have to wear a pad. because it is her first its a little heavy. Its not heavy but not super light. She wants to wear tampons. What do you think should i let her? If so what type, brand, and gram?

If she is responsible (and she sounds like it) I think you should let her wear the tampons. Having a period stinks and whatever protection makes her feel comfortable is the best choice. I babysit for a family who has three children--their oldest daughter got her period this summer at 11. Grace (I changed her name) is a cheerleader and a dancer--the mom is a pharmacist and let her wear tampons right away because Grace was so uncomfortable with pads. As far as the type of tampons, I would start with something small and with a plastic applicator like playtex slimfits or tampax pearl lite and go from there. Good luck! =)

personnly I think 12 is a little young for a tampon because I'm sure she is small.
I have 3 daughters I understand
If she is worried maybe she can wear a pad and two pair of panties or something on that line is she afraid of leaking or it falling off ?

i think that your daughter is a bit young at the moment to wear tampons, you can get slim pads or panty liners i think that would be better for her at the moment wait untill she is a bit older

tampons are uncomfortable. shes never had sex(thank God) so shes going to be tight and that will hurt putting that up there. a pad is best. just tell her not to worry its ok, as long as you change the pad regularly you should have to worry about it leaking out, and no one will know.

My mom let me wear tampons when I first started. Be sure to get small ones (teen size is good). I, however, was not able to use the ones will applicators. I couldn't get it in right. OB was good though.

Also those super thin maxi pads are good too. They are very comfortable, hardly noticeable, and they can absorb a lot.

OK, first of all, you can buy a Tampex Pearl Junior size tampons. It should fit her easily than regular size. It will help her to starting put her tampon in her body. You can show her to put the tampon in the body or show her the instructions on the package. If I were you to tell her to take deep breath for few seconds and let it out for few seconds then try relax to start put tampon in the body slowly. Don't shove in fast. Just take a time to start. Just follow the instructions on the package. OK, Wishing you good luck....

i think shes alittle too young... haha i have my period right now and im 15 what i do is i put my pad on one pair of under that are kind of small then another pair ontop. it doesnt feel like a diaper once you start moving and nobody notices

i started using them the 2nd month i got my period.. it was fine

If she wants to try a tampon, let her. After giving them a try, she can make a decision as to whether or not she wants to continue using them. I started using tampons around the age of 11 because pads are inconvenient and embarrassing in elementary school.

Start by getting her the lowest absorbency you can find (such as Tampax Lites). It is often useful to start off using slender tampons with rounded plastic applicator. Playtex tampons often have have nice applicators. Some women - myself included - find it easier to insert tampons WITHOUT applicators (such as o.b. tampons).

There are beginner tampons (smaller size) I can`t remember the name, but I think that as long as she`s comfortable it`s ok,sex (or lack of) has no bearing.
(I must agree,I ALWAYS felt like I was wearing a diaper(w/pads)

I started using them at 13, and I was fine! I started with lites & a pantyliner.

Good luck!
