Should I go to my OB-GYN or a Dermatologist? What would you do?!

Question: I am a 28 year old female and had been on birth control for about 10 years to help mostly with cramps and acne until a few months ago. Since stopping the pill (my husband and I have stopped trying NOT to get preg.), my acne has resurfaced with a vengance. Not just on my face but also on my back and chest. I feel REALLY insecure about it and want it to stop. I have my regular ob-gyn appointment in March. So, if you were me, would you go to a dermatologist-even though the acne is totally tied to stopping the pill or would you go to the ob-gyn? If you'd go to the ob-gyn, would you call now or wait until the end of March? Your opinion is appreciated!

I would say visit the dermatologist. They know about hormonal skin complaints and methods of treatment aside from the pill. Your OBGYN would probably just suggest going to the dermatologist.

Dermatologist. They deal with acne and I'm sure have dealt with women who have reported the exact same occurrence.

You could do either, but just realize that even though you have stopped TTC, the dermatologist may put you on an acne med that requires that you also be on a birth control pill, so you won't accidentally get pregnant,b/c of the high risk of birth defects with some acne meds.

Well i would go to the dermatologist and tell them uve been taking (insert name).... they might know what to do because it is on ur skin.

I would go to a dermatologist, or even your general practicioner. My regular doctor put me on an antibiotic for acne, which helped. I know my brother was put on an antibiotic and was also given a topical acne medication to put on his face to help. Both of us had great results from treatment like that. Make sure the dermatologist is aware that you're attempting to get pregnant because there is one acne medication that can cause birth defects.

Because you no longer want to be on the pill, the dermatologist is your more viable option. Good luck.
