Black, white and grey?!
Question:
Black, white and grey?
I know people can suffer from colour-blindness but has there ever been a case of someone who can only see in black, white & grey?
Answers:
Yes, there is a condition called 'achromatopsia', when a person has only rods and no cones, these people do not see any colour.
Cones are the photoreceptors in our eyes which allow us to see in colour, and in the daytime. Rods allow us greater sensitivity to see in poor lighting conditions, but only in shades of grey, and with poor acuity. People with achromatopsia are extremely light sensitive, and have bad visual acuity.
Its normally a congenital condition, and is very rare.
