For eyeglass prescriptions, is 5.00 or .50 weaker?!
Question: For eyeglass prescriptions, is 5.00 or .50 weaker?
I had an eye exam and I am going to use the prescription to order my glasses online where it's cheaper than in a store, but I can't figure out whether my doctor wrote down "-5.00" or "-0.50" because he didn't use a decimal point anywhere. He just wrote "-50" and I think I might be able to figure it out if I know which one is weaker because my prescription in general is weak.
Answers:
-.50 would be the lesser correction, but it would be wise to call to confirm or obtain a clearer prescription. With only 1 zero it likely is the -.50, but still double check.
You are going to also need a PD, pupillary measurement, to order these glasses if you don't already have that. The Doctor's office won't generally do that, so you may need to stop in at a local optical shop to get it. There could be a fee since you aren't ordering glasses there though.
5.00 would be a very strong lens.
