How long does "Pink Eye" usually lasts up to?!

Question: How long does "Pink Eye" usually lasts up to?
This morning I woke up with my left eyelid all stuck together with crusty sleepers...and I later went to the doctor today to see if I have conjunctivitis-I do. They prescribed me some eye-drops that I have to put in 3 times a day for 7 days. My eye is very noticeably red and there is a basketball game tomorrow morning at 10:00 I have to cheer lead for. I heard conjunctivitis is extremely contagious, but only the first 24 hours. Should I not go to my game tomorrow so I don't risk giving it to someone else? Also, how long are eyes usually noticeably red? I'm also a little embarrassed to go out in such public places...so I was wondering if it wouldn't be so noticeably red tomorrow? Please answer if you know, and give me your opinion about going to the game tomorrow!! Thanks!!! :)

Answers:

the only way you will give it to someone else is if you touch your eyes and then touch their hands and then they touch their eyes with their hands.
That why it is considered so contagious in day care setting and with small children;because they are forever picking and poking and don't wash their hands unless prompted.
Wash your hands well after treating your eye and be careful
And you will be surprised at how well your eye will look tomorrow morning.
A little side tip, if you have any, smear vaseline on your eye lid and eyelashes. It will prevent the crusties from sticking to your skin and lashes and makes any that do stick easier to wash away.
You might also want to consider throwing away your mascara because you could have contaminated it if you applied it the day before you woke up with a crusty eye. Many times infections are already there before you notice them.

This link from Mayo clinic has lots of good information for you including tips on self care and how to prevent spreading it.

Here's a page I found for you referencing the duration of pink eye:

I'm currently suffering from it myself. I recommend you go to the doctor. They will give you some prescription antibiotic eye drops that you use 3-4 times a day for 7-10 days. That will help to clear it up pretty quick. Just make sure you use it as directed.
As for your game, that's a tough call. Pink eye is highly contagious and the ball would be touching everyone's hands. That might even be the way you contracted it. I'd talk to your coach and see what they recommend, but it might be best to sit the game out until you get it treated.
