Poked my eye...............?!

Question: Poked my eye...............?
Ok so I poked myself in the eye with my finger a couple of hours ago. The eye is bloodshot and watering, is this normal? How can I get it to go away? Thanks in advance.

Answers:

You might have scratched your eye causing a corneal abrasion. Try using an ice pack on your closed eye for about 15 minutes every hour or so. Corneal abrasions often clear on their own and are not dangerous to vision unless they do not get better and are left untreated.

If the redness, tearing and discomfort do not disappear by the morning, make an immediate appointment with ophthalmologist or optometrist. Corneal abrasions are usually treated with antibiotic eye drops and the eye doc might put a contact lens bandage in your eye, which will relieve the discomfort.
