Average vision for adults is not 20/20. It's 20/10.
On rare occasions 20/5 has been found in people.
"Dr. Colenbrander also emphasizes that, contrary to popular belief, 20/20 is not actually normal or average, let alone perfect, acuity. Snellen, he says, established it is a reference standard. Normal acuity in healthy adults is one or two lines better. Average acuity in a population sample does not drop to the 20/20 level until age 60 or 70. This explains the existence of the two lines smaller than 20/20: 20/15 and 20/10."

Yes, that is exactly what it is. 20/20 is the average vision of an eye without disease. Some eyes are capable of 20/15, some are capable of 20/25 and the average is 20/20.
Some people call it "perfect" vision but that is not quite right. Many eyes can see better than 20/20. And many eyes that see 20/20 have serious problems and need glasses.
Im not sure about average but 20/20 is perfect vision that most people are born with. 20/20 means you don't need glasses !
