Am I able to buy contacts for astigmatism without a doctor?!

Question: Am I able to buy contacts for astigmatism without a doctor?
So my parents won't let me get contacts because they don't want to pay for it, so I was planning to get it for myself. However, my mom told me I had to get my eyes measured since I had astigmatism and that costs 70 bucks. I don't know if she is telling the truth or if that is mandatory, but I just want to know that if I wanted to buy contacts for astigmatism, do I need any other measurements besides my prescriptions? Thanks! & if you can, please leave some tips on what kind of contacts I should get. Thanks a bunch!

Answers:

Yes, you need a professional fitting for astigmatism lenses, they are too complicated to be able to guess at.

Very often , several brands have to be tried to find the best one for each person. Rotation of the lenses has to be measured while on your eyes ,then sometimes a different axis has to be ordered to compensate for too much rotation . Those are things that can't be done on your own.

Some brands just don't work for some people, and you can't know which will be right for you without trial lenses.

You probably have a glasses prescription , but the prescription for astigmatism contacts won't be the same as what you have written there.

So, all that adds up to your Mom being right.
