Dont like wearing glasses and contacts.....Is Lasik my only option?!

Question: Dont like wearing glasses and contacts.....Is Lasik my only option?
I hate wearing glasses because I look like a major nerd and Im not one (I wish...good grades--->good job). I can't wear contacts anymore because I keep getting major dry eyes. I've been trying eye exercises and I believe it will work but it might take years.....Is Lasik my only option? I want to live a life without glasses. I can walk outside and do my sales job without glasses but I need to wear it to read anything. If I only wear my glasses when I need to, will my eye sight improve? It should improve right?

The duration of use of glasses doesn't matter much. Try talking to your doctor about special contacts, there are moist ones, astigmatism ones, etc. There are also the once-a-day lenses, which only last for a day. Supposedly those are super comfy and keep your eyes nice and moist. You could also try getting eye drops. Eye surgery is pretty expensive and may be risky.
Hope that helps.

No lasik is your only option. There is no evidence that eye exercises, using/not using screens etc make any difference. Neither does not wearing your glasses or wearing your glasses. All that wil happen if you don't wear your glasses is that you won't be able to see properly and may get eye strain.

I'd suggest that you concentrate on the causes of dry eyes. computer screens dont' help with that, getting dehydrated doesn't help. Look at that first. Worth more effort than eye exercise. If you don't like the look of glasses then look at options. Opticians often have someone who specializes in finding the right type of glasses for you and will get in frames for you to try etc. Its hard but being unrealistic about what is possible won't help you move on with your life adn deal with this.l .

I think Lasik is the only alternative to spectacles and contacts. Many persons have boosted up their career after undergoing Lasik. Example: Tiger Woods, Brad Pitt.

In addition, do not worry so much coz it is safe and long term.

Yes... currently there are 3 options to correct your vision. 1. Contacts 2. Glasses 3. LASIK ... Lasik ends up saving you money in the long run, and makes your life way less of a hassle.

You didn't say how old you are. If you are over forty or the lens that makes your reading clear makes your distance vision blurry, LASIK may not even be an option.

LASIK is a surgical procedure intended to reduce a person’s dependency on glasses or contact lenses.

LASIK stands for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, a procedure that permanently changes the shape of the cornea, the clear covering of the front of the eye, using an excimer laser. A laser keratome (a laser device) is used to cut a flap in the cornea. A hinge is left at one end of this flap. The flap is folded back revealing the stroma, the middle-section of the cornea. Pulses from a computer-controlled laser vaporize a portion of the stroma and the flap is replaced. There are other techniques and many new terms related to LASIK that you may hear about.

Average Cost - Varies by treatment
Procedure Length - Usually complete within 20 minutes
Anesthesia - Numbing eye drop
Recovery Period - Minimal. Back to work next day
Frequency of Treatment - Once. May vary by case.
Duration of Results - Permanent in most cases. Age will still affect vision over time.

Have you tried disposable contacts? You wear them one day and discard them. They're much thinner and lighter than regular contacts, and they don't cost much more to use. You can usually try some for free to see how they feel.

It's a waste of time to try to improve your vision with things like eye exercises. The kind of vision impairment you're talking about is caused by the shapes of your eyes' lenses, which aren't quite focusing on the retinas (inner backs of your eyeballs) where your optic nerves try to perceive the images they're receiving. No exercises can change that—it'd be like talking more to try to change the shape of your mouth.

Instead, be sure you're eating a healthy balanced diet, and getting regular exercise, to keep your eyes and other organs as healthy as you can.

Also, if your eyes keep feeling dry, it's quite possible you're just dehydrated. (Is your skin dry too? Your lips?) Be sure to drink several glasses of water every day. Leave a note out somewhere to help you get into the habit. (I have one on my fridge that just says "H20?") When you get up in the morning, drink a big glass of water before you do anything else. (Well, you can use the toilet first, but aside from that.) We exhale all night, and our bodies lose a lot of moisture that way. Many people go around dehydrated without even realizing it.

Good luck! Cheers, Ander
