It depends. If you are talking drilled rimless then a good quality pair can hold up just fine. Trivex is a lens material suited for drilling for impact resistance, but also less likely to crack around the drilled holes. Polycarbonate is also a recommended material due to the impact resistance, but they can develop small cracks around the holes.

Grooved rimless have frame on top and are held in by a nylon cord, like a fishing line. In both cases there are some memory metal frames, like Fexon by Marchon ( or other mfg with similar product) that will survive bending and twisting generally better than conventional frames. That type of material is available in drilled and grooved rimless.

Ask the Optician what they have to offer and what type of warranty you will get if you do happen to break them. Also, consider investing in a good quality anti-reflective coating if you decide to go rimless. It will sharpen your vision but also make the glasses even less noticeable on the face. Very important to ask about A/R warranty too, if you decide to get it. They are not all the same and some of the lesser quality coatings can scratch or wear off the lenses.

I have them and the plugs that hold the glasses together get loose really easily. I recommend getting semi frameless.

Personal experience.

IMO, even in special materials designed to be drilled...yes, generally rimless glasses are more fragile.
