I am trying to order eyeglasses online--the script reads for the left eye -2.25 !

When it reads -2!.25 that represents the sphere +0!.50 represents the cylinder and the 170 represents the axis!.

170 is the axis!. You will have a cylinder & axis for astigmatism correction---not all people have astigmatism, so you may have a cylinder & axis in neither, one, or both your eyes!. If you're uncomfortable or can't understand your Rx, you may be better off going to an optical shop (wholesale clubs with optical departments will usually save you a lot of money), because if you foul up the Rx 1) you won't even know it, and 2) getting through to customer service for help on sites like that can be difficult!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You should transpose your Rx to minus cylinder form and get:

-1!.75 -!.50 x 80

Don't pay any attention to Certified Ophthalmologist Technicians or Opticians!. They will never get it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
