My almost 3 y/o started to cross his right eye and the OP prescribed glasses!. I really thought tthat as soon he put the glasses on, the eye would turn to its normal position at least while he has the glasses on!. I was just wondering if anyone out there has experienced this with their kids!. Botton line, how long does it take for glasses to start fixing acommodative esotropia!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Your son has what is called esotropia (as your other answerer stated)!. Many times when a child has an esotropia, it is associated with hyperopia (farsightedness)!. That means that in order for the child to see clearly they must overstimulate the accommodative (focusing) system which also stimulates the medial rectus muscle and causes the eye to turn inward!. It would be nice if all esotropias were 100% accommodative (focusing) in nature!. That's because if an esotropia is 100% accommodative in origin then putting glasses on the child will rapidly return the eyes to a straight positioning!. A significant number, though, are not totally accommodative in nature!. When this is the case, the glasses may decrease the magnitude of the eye turn but they will not completely straighten the eye!. If the eye does not completely straighten within 3 months (there is no rule to the 3 months idea!. It's just a rough timetable that I feel comfortable with) it probably isn't going to straighten using just glasses!. If you find this to be the case then surgical intervention will be an option you can look into!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The eyeglasses may or may fix the crossed eye!. There is no set time-frame for long it will take to fix it even if it does!. I have strabismus and my left eye would turn outward!. I started treatment when I was a little older than your son!. I was patched, wore eyeglasses, had two surgeries, and went through vision therapy!. I can say the problem is better than it was, but has not been cured!.

In my case the eyeglasses were completely ineffective because they made me feel ill!. My brain has trouble asjusting to eyeglasses even as an adult!. I think vision therapy was the most effective for me!.

I really hope the eyeglasses correct your son''s esotropia!. It will just take time and patience!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is giong to take sometime but it will fix the problem!. His eyes has to get use to the glassess so they can start to turn straight again!. So I say about 3 month!. Then everyone are different so I would ask his doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
