But my great grandmother was from Spain and very light complected and had green eyes!. And I have hazel eyes!. They change depending on my mood and clothes but they are really more green than hazel, and all my life people have commented on how unusual it is for me to have that color eyes!. One of my younger brothers also has lighter colored eyes!. I know my mother never cheated i look to much like my father!. My mother swears its because when she was younger she used to pretend she had green eyes lol!. But i would like a more believable explanations :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
it can skip generations
it's all genetic
think back to biology
dominant and recessive genes are the key:
let's use H as dominant (brown) and h as recessive (green) and let's say your mom has Hh and your dad has Hh (that's the only explanation for u and ur bro's light eyes):

H h
H HH Hh
h Hh hh

u and ur bro got the hh which is recessive recessive
anything else and u would've had brown eyes
the most common recessive eye color is blue but green is recessive as well and with ur great grandmother's green eyes, ur family's recessive is green (but it can be blue in the next generation)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, eye colour can skip many generations!.

Basically, each of your parents have genetic information from both of their parents!. So you mom has eye colour info from her mom and from her dad!. She would have received brown eye colour information from her mom, and green eye colour information from her dad!. Her eyes look brown because brown is dominant over green, but her DNA carries the green info as well (it's just hidden)!.

Your dad would have a similar situation: brown eye colour information from one parent and green or light coloured information from the other!. The green/light coloured info could have been carried hidden for many generations!.

So, YOU would have received green eye colour info from your mom as well as green/light coloured info from your dad!. Since there is no brown to be dominant, your eyes are green!.

Yes it can "skip" a generation, eye color is determine by the genes your parents pass on, some genes are dominant, some are recessive!. generally the gene for dark eyes is dominant, and the one for light eyes is recessive!. If you have two dominant dark genes your eyes will be dark, if you have one dominant dark, and one recessive light gene, your eyes will still be dark!. only people with two recessive genes will have light eyes!. If your mother and father both have one dominant, and one recessive gene, it is possible that their offspring can have light eyes, even though they have dark ones!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

well sure!.

you still have some of your grandparent's genes along with your parent's!. Because think about it, where did your parent's genes come from!?

like, i have blue-green eyes!. but both my parents have blue eyes!. My grandmother on the other hand, has green eyes!.

It all has to do with dominant vs!. resistive genes!. Probably your combination of genes is why they are light!.

Most definitely! You are a product of everyone in your genetic tree!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, especially if it is a recessive trait like blue eyes!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's all genetic!. In high school, we did punnet squares to work out the chances of having a particular trait, such as eye colour!. You have to go WAY back up your family tree to see what eye colour your great great grandparents had and so forth, as your parents might be carrying a recessive, dormant eye colour gene which has mainfested itself now!. It's not uncommon!. My mother and her sister have a Hungarian father and a Welsh mother!. My mum has a lighter Welsh complexion and blue eyes, but her sister has the darker Hungarian complexion and brown eyes!. Her kids have hazel eyes, brown from the Hungarian grandfather and their father with the green from the Welsh grandmother!. It's normal, your Mother didn't cheat (I assume) and it's probably a gene your mother or father are carrying from way back!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
