When using a patch for lazy-eye, does the eye that is not used then become weake!

Question: Doesn't this cause more problems later ?

Answers: Doesn't this cause more problems later ?

No, the strong eye will not weaken. The stronger eye has had the opportunity to develop, whereas the lazy (amblyopic) eye, has not. It just means that the stronger eye won't be overworking itself. By patching the good eye, you are letting the bad eye have a chance to do its job. Patching the better eye does not create problems with that eye later on.

No, my brother did it and it straightened his eyes right out.

The lens of an eye is controlled by muscle, all muscle needs exercise this is what he patch is is doing it is forcing the lazy eye to strengthen its muscle to try and catch up with its stronger counterpart.
Be guided by the opticians and wear the patch until they say it is not needed, also if they advise temporary removal to give the strong eye some work to maintain its strength then follow their advice or ask them if removal is approved before attempting such a removal.
