Do people usually see distance better out of single vision than progressive lens!
Question: I've had these progressive lenses from Lenscrafters and I can't even read road signs. My MD office said they were right on which leads me to think the doc made an error in writing the script?

A pure distance lens is better for pure distance, but as your need for a reading addition increases, the blurring of the dashboard instruments may become more annoying.
If the vision with the progressive lenses improves when you drop your chin slightly, (using a higher part of the lens) than they have been set too high.
This effect can be exaggerated if your driving position has the seat-back inclined backwards, because then your chin tends to be higher, and you naturally use a lower part of the lens*.
This of course matters hardly at all to a single-vision distance lens, but is critical to whether a varifocal delivers clear distance vision.
*just occasionally I have made varifocals specifically for sports car drivers for this reason. Out of the car, the reading portion is too low for anything but occasional use.
When I tried a few years ago I couldn't wear the progressives either....or maybe I or my eyes couldn't adjust to them.
I saw my husband having a difficult time adjusting to these lenses so I have continued to use my single lens glasses. I don't really need them anyway. I can still see quite well close up without glasses.
