How to fix compound/open fracture?!
Question: How to fix compound/open fracture?
If the bone has been broken and came through the skin, how would a doctor fix it?
Answers:
Open fractures require immediate medical attention due to the risk of infection. Infection in a broken bone is a bad, bad thing.
Usually you have to have surgery to reposition the bone and screws or plates inserted (sometimes these are permanent) to hold it in position. Sometimes traction is needed to hold the bone straight ( mostly for upper leg fractures)
if you are sitting there with a compound fracture, get yourself straight down to the ER pronto.
Been there, done that!
