I have a bit of carrot in my wind pipe, how can I get it out?!
Question:
I have a bit of carrot in my wind pipe, how can I get it out?
Last night I started choking on a bit of a baby carrot that went down my wind pipe, about the size of a grain of rice. I was coughing horribly. I managed to loosen it so that I could breath, but I still kept coughing - sometimes for a good minute at a time, up until about the time I was going to bed. Right before I went to bed, it felt a little bit better but still not 100%.
When I woke up, I had another coughing fit and managed to cough the rice grain sized piece of carrot out. I felt much better and wasn't coughing, however later on I still feel like there's another piece of carrot in there (maybe like the size of a sliver). I cough every once in a while, but not like I was last night.
How can I get this piece of carrot out? Any tricks? What can I do in the future if I ever get like I was last night, having a coughing fit but still being able to breath?
Answers:
If it doesn't go down after you eat some smooth foods like yogurt and ice cream and drink a lot of water, then it may not actually be stuck in there anymore. Once I got a pill stuck in my throat, and once I got it down, it still felt like it was in my throat. It had actually just scratched the inside of my throat and was irritated and swollen. I couldn't drink anything without it being really painful for about a week. Then it got better.
