Leg and foot numbness began in recovery room following second lumbar microdiscec!

Question:

Leg and foot numbness began in recovery room following second lumbar microdiscectomy.?

I am 33 years old and had my first lumbar microdiscectomy to fix a badly herniated L4-L5 disc in September. I slipped and fell in March and after reviewing a new MRI, my Dr. and I agreed I would need a 2nd MRI to fix the exact same disc. Although I had quite a bit of pain after the fall, it began to improve and nearly disappeared right before the surgery. This time around, I did not experience any numbness at all. My Dr. believed I should still go ahead with the surgery given my history and the severity of the herniation. On June 1st I had the 2nd microdiscectomy. Upon waking in recovery, I had a horrible surge of pins and needles from the side of my right calf down to my toes. The Dr said this can be normal and would subside. Later that afternoon, the pins and needles did subside only to be replaced b numbness. It is now 2 1/2 weeks later and there has been no change. I have no pain, just numbness. My foot feels cold most of the time, but I cannot feel pain. Any thoughts?

Answers:

After so much time if you are still feeling numbness and no pain it means thereis probably a neurodeficite..meaning some nerve fibre may be damaged. The best thing to ascertain this is to consult your doctor or a neurologist and ask him to go for nerve conduction test, which will give an accurate picture of your nerves.
