Do you need to see a Dr for a bruised knee?!

Question:

Do you need to see a Dr for a bruised knee?

Ok because I am a klutz, I really banged my knee cap on the car door somewhere while fishing my children out of the car. It hurt really bad for a while right after and I saw stars. Well today it feels bruised and I can walk on it but ot feels sorta stiff and like something is pulling on my knee cap. There is a good lump on the top of the knee cap. Is this something that takes a while to heal or should I see the dr?

RICE is the general rule of thumb when it comes to knee injuries. Along with that take up to 600 mg of ibuprofen (advil) as long as you don't have a history of ulcers. Make sure you take it with food cause it can irratate you stomach. It takes about three to five days to get the pain to go away. The stiffnes you feel is fluid in the knee joint. The body does this to protect itself from futher injury. If you don't see any improvwement or if things get worse go get checked out by an Orhtopedic Dr. Good luck
