Fix my meniscus tear without surgery?!

Question:

Fix my meniscus tear without surgery?

Has anyone out there been able to just do therapy and NO surgery on a MEIDAL MENISCUS TEAR? I am doing leg exercises and hope this will do the job so I can get back to life as it USED to be. I dont believe it is a BAD tear.....I walk ok....but it is NOT normal yet. I am taking an anti inflammatory , and also wear the elastic knee band as needed. HELP !

Answers:

A torn meniscus does not heal itself. However, surgery to repair always depends on the symptoms you are experiencing, your activity level, and age. If your symptoms are so that you have little or no pain, do not participate in any vigorous activities, and are middle aged or older then you do not need surgery....the strengthening exercises are enough to take the stress off of your knee. If, on the other hand, you have a lot of pain that interferes with activities you like, participate in athletics, and/or are young then it is wise to have surgery to repair.
