Migraines in a 4 yr old?!

Question:

Migraines in a 4 yr old?

My daughter, 4 years old, started complaining of headaches about 2 months ago, every few days. Now, it's every single day, all day, that she says, "Mommy I really have bad pains in my head" and she points to the top of the head. Now, I went to her pediatrician and he did the neuro test on her where he checked her responses in her limbs and eyesight. That all passed. He prescribed her cyproheptadine tablets, which to my understanding is a strong antihistamine. What does this have to do with headaches? And could this be an onset of migraines? If anyone has any input on this subject, please help!

Answers:

She might have allergies, they can cause headaches. I have migraines, they are terrible, your poor baby. My doctor recommended I keep a journal of my activities and what I ate for a while when I started getting them. This helped us discover I get them when I don't sleep long enough. There are so many causes for migraines and there are 2 major different kinds, so a journal of her behavior, activities and what she eats may help you and your doctor pinpoint the cause, in the case that they are migraines. Best wishes!
