Numb skin after fall, what's wrong?!

Question:

Numb skin after fall, what's wrong?

three months ago I fell straight onto my knees walking up some stairs. one patch , about 4x2 inches, next to my knee started to feel like a burn. it never looked like a bruse or anthing. a couple weeks later I noticed when went with my hand over that spot it felt numb. the doctor did a test on it with a sharp object and the lower layer of skin has feeling. the doctor said it would go away, but it didn't. the upper one never felt the same again. sometimes I still feel like a burst of fire is going through that patch and it feels hot. it does feel painful at times too. it is difficult to discribe it. I hope someone has an Idea what that could be. thanks

I went to the doctor twice, they said it would most likely come back. but it didn't so thanks for your quick responses. i am glad it is not a big portion of my skin. I guess I just have to live with it.

Answers:

Numbness, tingling, burning, hypersensitivity, etc. is what doctors call paresthesias and is the result of nerve damage.
