Do I have a concussion or just food poisoning?!

Question: Do I have a concussion or just food poisoning?
3 days ago I hit the back of my head really hard. I was kinda out of it a few minutes after it, but then I felt better. The next day I woke up with pain behind my eyes and that night I went out to eat at Steak n Shake. This afternoon I've thrown up 2 times and my eyes still really hurt. I'm assuming the throwing up is food poisoning but I'm not sure and I'm not sure that the eye pain has anything to do with it but just thought I'd throw it in there. Do you think it's a concussion? And should I go to the doctors or just let it pass?

Answers:

Go to the Emergency Room now. A concussion generally takes a few days before symptoms start showing up. In fact sometimes symptoms of a concussion do not show up until 10 days after the injury. A concussion is actually a bruise on the brain. The vomiting and pain can be caused by pressure from the skull on the brain. If you hit your head hard enough to lose consciousness you need to be checked by a doctor immediately. Do not drive yourself.

Here is a link from the Center of Disease Control on signs and symptoms of a concussion.

This tells you just about every sign or symptom you should look for in a concussion. The biggest thing to look out for is a severe headache, changes in vision, changes in mood, confusion, and changes in sleeping patterns. I hope this helps.

I'm an RN

DEFINITELY, DEFINITELY, DEFINITELY - go to A & E and get assessment. At least go and let the triage nurse or doctor tell you that you have nothing to worry about. You can not mess around when you have had a bad bang to the head, especially when you lost consciousness. Take care.

I would go to the doctor. If you threw up because of food poisoning, you would be throwing up more than two times. Vomiting is one of the side effects of concussion, and you should be treated to keep this from occurring again.

you really should go to an emergency hospital and get and ct scan done. you may possibly have a concusion. when i had one i also threw up and was passed out for a few minutes. do not play around with a concusion. please dont drive under these conditions.

I would go to the doctor right away and get a CT scan done. I wouldn't mess with something like that. I doubt it's the food, especially if you had the pain before you went out to eat. Better to be safe then sorry.

It might be a concussion. Go to the doctor or the damage and swelling will keep increasing and it might get even more painful.

You should see a doctor. I think the head pain and the throwing up are both from the concussion!
