What's the difference between hydrocodone and propoxyphene?!
Question:
What's the difference between hydrocodone and propoxyphene?
I have taken both medicines and found that propoxyphene doesn't work as fast or strong, why?
Answers:
Propoxyphene (brand names Darvon, Darvocet, and Wygesic) is what doctors give to patients when they don't really want to give them a narcotic, or if the patient needs a narcotic but is afraid of iatrogenic addiction (addiction from taking a medication for a real medical purpose). It's really not that much stronger than Tylenol. Hydrocodone is one of the weaker narcotics (comparatively speaking, for me-- I take Oxycontin and OxyFast) but is quite a bit stronger than Darvocet. It is quite effective for moderate pain.
