getting your appendix taken out?!
Question: Getting your appendix taken out?
Answers:
I work in the surgery department of a local hospital, and I can honestly tell you an appendectomy (the removal of the appendix) is not a big deal at all. We have about 30 surgeries a day, and it seems there is usually at least 1 appendectomy each day.
Usually, an appendectomy is done in an emergency case, if the appendix ruptures or is about to rupture.
The average time for a laparoscopic appendectomy (usually this is how an appendectomy is done now... using small incisions and machinery to help minimize the pain/time/recovery time of the surgery) is usually 45 minutes to an hour, and is considered an 'easy' procedure. The patient is usually able to heal fully within a week or two, and feels minimal pain.
You will be fine. :)
