Question: My Mum's finger has swollen up and gone purple?
She says it feels numb and pins and needley. She hasn't hit it or anything. It's gone really dark purple! I told her to ring the Doctor's which she did. They said they're too busy and said to ring them tomorrow if it's still purple and swollen. Should she just go to A&E? It started off like a little bruise on her finger and it's gotten so big it's like all over the finger! I'm freaking out :(

If you are concerned then you definitely take her to the hospital... It's always better to be safe than sorry.

Fingers turn purple after an injury because blood vessels have become damaged and broken, causing blood to pool under the surface of the skin. It can also turn black and blue after bruising.
