Question: 19 days ago I donated blood at work..I ended up heading straight to the ER. I couldn't move my right arm?
19 days ago I donated blood while at work. They couldn't find my vein then another lady walked over and shoved the needle further down at that point I felt a burning sensation travel up and down my arm. Then they couldn't stop the bleeding and had to bandage my arm up with five ice packs all around...I ended up heading straight to the ER. I couldn't move my right arm , feel my fingers, my fingers were turning purple and it was swollen. They elevated it gave my vicodine and ibuprofen for swelling and told me it was either a leakage of blood or they hit a nerve. I explained to them that at that I felt shooting and tingling pains up n down my arm, cramps, and could barely move my fingers. They told me it would heal. The following days I had bruises from my upper triceps to my palm. I couldn't use my right hand (I am right handed) so I followed up with my dr who prescribed me more vicodine and ibuprofen. 2 weeks later my bruising was worse. I contacted the donation ctr and was told they could not help me other than tell me to alternate BTW cold and hot packs and I should be fine. 19 days later I have swelling in the upper part of my arm, pain and itching. It feels like something is pulling on the inside. The cramping is horrible and when I step outside in the cold or humdity my arm kills. My dr said it was probably Thrombosis but said I'd be better off seeing a Cardiovascular Specialist. Returned to work but work with a hot pack and ice pack on my arm and still in pain. What is wrong?

What is wrong is that whomever took your blood is incompetent. Follow your doctor's medical recommendations and see an attorney.

A Vascular doctor may be able to help you if in fact there is a thrombosis. However, although the bruising and swelling may be a result of blood collecting from the needlestick, your symptoms sound more as if you may have sustained nerve damage.

I don't think she should of just pushed the needle like that in you. I see this as a lawsuit.
