Question: I fell over and hurt my hand!.!?
I fell over on a concrete floor and hurt my right hand, its swollen quite abit, and hurts quite badly!. It hurts the most like at the bottom of my 1st metacarpal bone!. What are the signs of broken bones if there are any!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
The scaphoid bone at the base of the hand on the thumb side is a carpal bone which is commonly fractured when people have a fall and land on their outstretched hand!. Fractures can present with and without swelling and at this stage it is hard to tell the range of movement of the bone because the surrounding area will be tender from the impact!. I suggest you get an x-ray, it may be painful waiting around the emergency department but its better than just leaving it and the problem getting worse!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's possible you may have what is called a scaphoid fracture!.
You can read more about this at http://www!.bchealthguide!.org/kbase/topic!.!.!.

In general the features of a fracture are:
Pain
Deformity
Swelling
Loss of function

But not all of these may be present!.

I recommend a trip to A+E to get it properly X-rayed

Sorry

I have always heard swelling isn't a sign but I just recently broke my ankle in two places and it swelled so bad!! So I would suggest you go do X rays!. I didn't think I broke mine and neither did my husband but then we found out I pretty much broke it off and needed plates and screws put in there!. Better to be safe!
Good luck I hope it isn't broken!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

well if you can manage to type then I think you are okay, no danger of your hand being broken if you can type!Www@Answer-Health@Com
