First of all where did you get the 'slipped disc' diagnosis!. Have you had an MRI scan which actually showed some disc herniation or was it just used as a throw away line by your doctor!?

If you are basically just talking about back pain, with no factual information on the state of your discs, the answer is an interesting one!. About 5 years ago a study was done looking at the effects of back pain interventions!. What it showed was rather embarrassing to everyone!. It basically indicated that whoever you saw, and however you were dealt with with regard to back pain, doctor, GP, orthopaedic surgeon, physiotherapist, osteopath or chiropractor, the outcomes were almost exactly the same!. The same number of patients got better and the same number remained symptomatic!.

This could be used to suggest that everything helps a bit, or more likely that nothing makes that much difference to recovery!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Would you be surprised to learn that there is no such thing as a "slipped Disc" !?!?
Majority of times it is just inflammation that causes tissue to swell and press on nerves, hence the pain!.
This is the reason you are given pain control and anti inflammatory drugs, so as to give your back time to heal!.
I do not believe a Doctor would refer to anyone as a quack!.
And there are a lot of very good back specialists around who have trained hard to do the job that they do, unlike doctors who spend very little time in studying back pain!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't understand - is the back specialist that you're calling a quack a trained medical professional or a chiropractor or a self-proclaimed something!? Just because your doctor thinks all you need is a few more pain pills doesn't make a different trained professional a 'quack'!. If you're not happy with the results from your current doc, definitely go see SOMEONE else!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

contact your local nhs hospital they will have a list of specialists not quacks who will be able to manipulate your back to give you some comfort!.
this is effectively a type of physiotherapy this people will be certified and experts in their field if your doctor will not refer you you can always obtain this treatment privately but use the nhs contact listsWww@Answer-Health@Com

Listen to your doctor and if you dont think they've done enough, go to another doctor for a second opinion!. A quack wont help anything, and could even make it worse!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would be inclined to listen to your Dr!. Some people visit physiotherapists and chiropractor's etc for manipulation and/or other physical treatments!. It is debatable whether physical treatments would help at all with a prolapsed disc! Most of the time it has little or no effect!. However, physical treatments provide some short-term comfort!. Studies have shown the best way to rectify the situation is to keep active as much as you can (without it causing you pain) and exercise!. Take pain killers for the pain!.

There is NO way, your Dr can diagnose a slipped disc for sure by just 'feeling, you need an MRI!. What I said above still stands, years ago they used to advise patients to rest when they had slipped a disc, this is now thought to do more harm than good; walk around and do as much activities as possible (without it hurting) and it should in time get better!. Only rarely is surgery required!. Due to my horse riding etc I have had this problem!. If it were me, i'd ask my Dr for an MRI!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
