My daughter will be 1 this sunday!. i moved recently, and also got a new job!. i had an issue with my health insurance, and found out that a couple of well baby visits and vaccines i got for her were not covered, and now I have a $500 balance!. because i moved, i am looking to switch dr's!. i was referred to one by a friend, and made a well baby 12 month check up for her, but of course i need her records!. However, I cant afford to pay the $250 cash for her well baby AS WELL AS pay her old dr the $500 at the same time!. Will he release her medical records, while I still owe him money!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
They probably won't want to release the info since it is the only way to try and leverage the money out of you!. Many offices will hold your records as blackmail!. This is just another reason why we should have national healthcare!. They are however "your" records and they should be forwarded without having to play these stupid games!. The health of your child is more important than what is owed because your insurance didn't want to cover you!.

You can try and get them to release and possibly even have your new MD send a letter requesting the records!. Or try and find a low priced attorney to send a letter on his letterhead asking for "your" records!. Some offices are just real jerks about it!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It has been my experience that no, they will not release records if you owe a balance!. Most doctor's offices, in fact, will not release records until you pay the balance down to $0!. They may put you on a payment plan, but until that balance is paid, don't expect medical records to be released!.

Kinda sucks, that way!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Firstly your medical records are yours, even though held by a doctors
office, and privacy laws prevents them giving out details of monies owed!. They could however, put debt collectors on to you which will black list your credit ratings!. Instead of getting stressed out about this
why not give them a call explain your situation and ask for a payment
plan!. I'm sure they'd rather get something than nothing!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Probably not!. Why don't you call the office to ask, and explain!? Maybe they would put you on a payment plan that would be easier for you to pay!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Legally he has to release her medical records!. I called my doctor and asked if they can hold your records and not forward them to other doctors!. The lady that does accounting says that is against the law!.

Doctors know that people have money issues, but that does not allow them to hold your records as hostages!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
